Born in the Montreal area, Doreen grew up and was educated in French until her family moved to Lachute, QC. There she learned English attended Laurentian Regional High School. She went on to earn a bilingual Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from the University of Ottawa.
Doreen’s career progressed through a variety of sales and marketing position in the hotel industry. She left her last corporate position as VP Marketing for The Sutton Place Grande Hotels Group in 1998 to launch Greenfield Hospitality Services Inc., a business development firm dedicated to the meetings industry and non-profit organizations. At its peak the company employed 23 people in Alexandria, ON. The business was sold to an employee in November 2016.
After selling the business Doreen continued to consult for select clients under Ashton Wagner Enterprises Inc. She also returned to school, undertaking a MA in Inter-Disciplinary Studies with Royal Roads University. Her thesis focuses on entrepreneurial resilience in rural women business owners. In 2018 Doreen founded Business Sisters / Consœurs en Affaires, a bilingual social enterprise dedicated to building happy, resilient rural communities. The group offers networking and peer-to-peer learning events, which are offered online during the pandemic. You can consult the event schedule here.
